Spencer Taylor Jr. (born March 6, 1928) was the long‐time lead singer of the gospel quartet The Highway Q.C.’s. He joined the group in 1956 and remained its frontman for nearly seven decades. Under his leadership, the group became one of the enduring voices of jubilee quartet style gospel music, helping to launch or influence careers of other gospel and secular artists. Known affectionately as “The Godfather” of gospel quartet music, Taylor Jr. was honored in 2017 with a Stellar Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.
